PROFESSIONAL ROLES
I am a Music Therapist, Provisional Psychologist, Music Educator, and musician. I have worked in the community and abroad in my various roles. I believe in the power of music and I work from a place of integration. Some of my most fulfilling work has been working with private clients and students with my own business. I also enjoy special projects, such as when I volunteered in Nepal and worked as a music therapist at the children’s orphanage and women’s centre. Other places of work include the National Music Centre, University of Calgary, Banff and Canmore Hospital, and Semarandana Munggu (Bali).
RESEARCH INTERESTS
My research interests include exploring how world music practices can be adapted into Western models of healing. I am also interested in exploring the intersection between music therapy and counselling – both the similarities and differences both type of practices offers. I am drawn to the practical application of research that can be expressed in new ways, such as through art, story, and video. Research methodologies are primarily rooted in qualitative research with an appreciation for mixed methods. I have special interests in interdisciplinary research in ethnomusicology, applied arts, arts based research, narrative inquiry, phenomenology, case studies, and ethics.
